Durban Poison is a F1 cross of a sativa strain from a secret garden located just outside Durban, South Africa and a potent, early Dutch skunk. This strain grows tall with huge leaves. Long, tight buds have a sweet earthy flavor that has a hint of anise.
Durban Poison's history goes back to the late 1970's were the land-race sativa was growing in South Africa when Ed Rosenthal was on the hunt for new genetics. The variety that he found was one of the earliest-finishing plants in the area and he took home a variety of seeds from this locally cultivated genetic pool. Upon starting the seeds at home in the US, there was a fairly wide variety of expressions and flowering times, so Ed began the process of choosing his favorites and inbreeding the line to best bring out those characteristics.
Few strains in history have the amount of work and lineage behind them as the sativa dominant Durban Poison and it shows in its enduring qualities. People who seek a true energetic sativa experience continue to ask for the Durban Poison. Here in Colorado it has been and still remains one of the most-requested sativa varieties on dispensary and recreational shelves.
